Here in Central FL, we have had an unseasonably wet winter; approaching still is the imminent rainy season.
What causes those unsightly cracks, and why is it more than just something superficial?
It happens most frequently on the surface of your home that gets the most sun exposure. The stucco retains heat as the sun goes down and then rapidly cools. The difference in temperature causes the surface to expand and retract, creating these stress cracks. Water then gets into the stucco and travels down the cinderblock towards your foundation. The water travels through where the block and foundation meet and into the next layer, your wood. Directly following is your dry wall, which acts as a sponge and wicks the water upward. Long term exposure leads to softening of the structure and quite possibly mold.
